Troop 919 Notes 5-24-09

COPE COURSE/Backpacking Trip - We will be meeting at the Scout Hut at 6 p.m. on Friday for this weekend's combination COPE Course/Backpacking Intro trip. You should eat dinner before arriving at the Scout Hut.

Here is a list of the Scouts who have signed-up for these trips:

Backpacing Intro - Ben E., Riley B., Tanner P., Gabriel H., Austin C., Daniel P., Gavin W. and Lucas B.

The following adults have signed-up for this trip: Steve Tucker, Mike Warner, Bill Brewer, David Jacobius, J. Burgiss and Alan Cox.

If you are on the backpacking trip, there will be a backpack shakedown at Tuesday's menu planning meeting. You should bring your backpack fully packed (minus food and water) to this meeting for a shakedown (inspection) and plan to leave your backpack at the Scout hut.

Backpackers should pack a separate bag for Friday night if you wish. We will be spending Friday night at the Kit Carson campsite and heading out to the Raven Knob backcountry on Saturday morning.

Summer Camp - There are a few Scouts who still have outstanding balances for summer camp. Please see Mr. Hough or Mr. Wilhelmi and have these fees paid no later than our Court of Honor on June 2.

Medical Forms - We need your help!

There are a total of 43 Scouts and adult leaders who will be going to Raven Knob with our Troop for Summer Camp.

We only have current medical forms for 8 people. That means we do not have a current medical form for most of you! And for most, it also means you need a visit to the doctor!

The deadline for having your summer camp medical form to the Troop is at next week's Court of Honor. We have been asking for your help on this subject throughout the spring and, so far, are not having any success. Mr. Warner will be coordinating our medical forms for summer camp, so please see him at Tuesday's meeting to take care of this important task.

Scouts will not be allowed to leave with us for summer camp if we do not have a current medical form.

Court of Honor - Our June Court of Honor will be on Tuesday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Brookstown United methodist Church. Be sure to invite your family and friends to this meeting to help celebrate your accomplishmnets.

Scouts and families are reminded to bring plenty of snacks and drinks for the fellowship following the Court of Honor.

Swim Checks - Summer camp swim checks will be held at the Fulton Family YMCA on Tuesday, June 9. Plan to meet at the Y at 7:30 p.m. Do not come to the Scout Hut. The fee is $3 per person unless you are a member of the Fulton Family YMCA.

Eagle Project - Brady A. has schedule a workday for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project.

The workday is Saturday, June 20, beginning at 9 a.m. at Hospice.  Lunch and snacks will be provided. We will be help Brady work on the nature trail at Hospice and Brady will be at Tuesday's Troop meeting with a sign-up sheet and more information.

Troop Fun Day - Our annual Troop Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 13 at Emerald Pointe.

The Troop will be paying your admission, but you are on your own for lunch and refreshments.

Families are also invited to join us on this trip. Mr. Essex will be coordinating this trip, so if your family want to go along, see him on Tuesday to find out the cost. All admissions must be paid in advance by the June 2 Court of Honor.

Troop 919 Message

May Camping Trip - The final signup for our May camping trip is at Tuesday's Troop meeting.

The is a combination trip over the weekend of May 29-31, with separate programs for older and newer Scouts.

Scouts 13 and older will be taking on the Raven Knob COPE Course. COPE, which stands for "Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience" will begin on Friday night and continue on Saturday with the final session taking place on Sunday morning. Keith Roberts, the director of the Raven Knob COPE Course will be at Tuesday's meeting to discuss the COPE program. If you are signed up for this portion of the trip, please make every effort to attend Tuesday's meeting.

Our newer and younger Scouts will be participating in an introductory backpacking trip as we head out to the Raven Knob backcountry after spending Friday night in a CRK Adirondack.

There will be a backpack shakedown at the menu planning meeting on Tuesday, May 26. You should bring your backpack fully packed (minus food and water) to this meeting for a shakedown (inspection) and plan to leave your backpack at the Scout hut.

If you are on the backpacking trip, you should pack a separate bag for Friday night if you wish.

PLC Meeting - The Troop Patrol Leader's Council meets at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Scout Hut.

Board of Review - The Troop Committee will be available the Scout Hut on Thursday at 6 p.m. for Scouts who need a Board of Review for rank advancement. If you are anticipating earning a rank badge at the June Court of Honor, you should ask for a Board of Review on Thursday. Scouts should arrive at their Board of Review in Class A uniform and should have completed their Scoutmaster conference prior to the BOR.

Computer Records - Please remember to bring your Scout Handbook to our weekly meetings so Mr. Pierson can make sure your computer records are up-to-date.

Troop Committee Meeting - The Troop committee will meet on Thursday following the PLC (usually around 7 p.m.) at the Scout Hut.

If you have recently joined our Troop Committee, the group usually meets at the Scout Hut following the monthly Patrol Leaders Conference.

Summer Camp Payments - Your summer camp payments are due. Mr. Hough and Mr. Wilhelmi will be available at Tuesday's meeting to accept your payments.

You should have received an e-mail a week or so ago with your remaining balance.

Troop 919 Notes 5-10-09

Summer Camp Merit Badges - Your final summer camp merit badge selections are due by Tuesday's Troop meeting.

You should have received an e-mail over the weekend that included you summer camp fee balance and other important information. If you have already submitted your merit badge choices, they were included in the e-mail. Please verify that this important information is correct.

Relay for Life - Our Troop will is continuing its tradition of offering Scouts the opportunity to participate in the Relay for Life. This year's walk is on Friday (May 15). Scouts and families participating in the walk should meet at the Methodist Children's Home on Reynolda Road at 7 p.m. on Friday.

As we have done in the past, we will be walking with our Tropp Committee Chairman, Jim Pierson. Mr. Pierson is a cancer survivor and is always appreciative of the Scouts and their families who come out to support him and the Relay for Life.

If you are collecting service hours for rank advancement, you will receive credit for the time spent at the Relay for Life on Friday evening.

Mr. Zimmermann is coordinating our Troop's participation in the walk on Friday.

Cub Scout Flag Ceremony - Andrew T. is seeking the help of a few Scouts to assist him with a flag ceremony with Pack 919 Cub Scouts on Tuesday. If you can help out, please let Andrew know in advance and plan to be at the Scout Hut by 7 p.m. The Cub Scout flag ceremony will be at our Scout Hut.

OA Spring Fellowship - Wahissa Lodge #118's Spring Fellowship is this weekend at Camp Raven Knob. You may check in on Friday evening in the dining hall beginning at 7 p.m.

Spring Fellowship is an important event in the lodge's calendar as Arrowmen gather in cheerful service to help get camp ready for the summer camp season.

Setting up tents. moving pallets and putting bunks and mattresses into the tents can be fun! Plus the lodge's Vice-Chief of activities promises the weekend will not be all work. Sounds like he has plans for a lot of fun stuff after the work has been completed on Saturday afternoon.

OA Brotherhood Help Session - Elauwit Chapter (our OA chapter) will be offering a Brotherhood help session for youth and adult Ordeal members who are planning to earn their Brotherhood membership at summer camp this year.

The help session is planned for Thursday, May 14 during the chapter meeting at 7 p.m. at Maple Springs Methodist Church on Reynolda Road.

May Camping Trip Sign-Up - Sign-up for our May camping trip will be at Tuesday's Troop meeting. The trip will over the weekend of May 29-31 and we will be heading to Camp Raven Knob. This will be a combination trip with different programs for older and newer Scouts.

COPE is a lot of fun and is a great team building experience. You should make every effort you can to participate in this activity.

PLC Meeting - The next Troop Patrol Leaders Conference will be on Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Scout Hut.

This is also the time when the Troop Committe will be available for your rank advancement Board of Review.

You should be reviewing your Scout handbook to determine where you are on your rank advancement and make a special effort to complete any outstanding requirements by this time. Our June Court of Honor will be on Tuesday, June 2. Don't forget to schedule a Scoutmaster conference prior to your Board of Revew!

Summer Camp Swim Checks – Our Summer Camp swim checks are scheduled for Tuesday, June 9 at the Fulton Family YMCA pool at 7:30 p.m. Plan to meet at the Y and not the Scout Hut. There is a $3 per person fee for those who are members of the Fulton Y. If you are a member, remember to bring your Y ID card.
 
Changing rooms are available at the Fulton Y. Don’t forget your towel!
 
Summer Camp Medical Forms - It is also time to submit your updated Health Form if you have not already done so. All medical forms must be submitted by our Court of Honor on June 2.
