District Note: OA Christmas Trees (Tuesday, November 18, 2008)

TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:

The holidays are just around the corner.  For many, this means the gathering of friends and family for parties, dinners, and banquets where a point of focus is a nicely decorated Christmas tree.  However, the economy is not doing so well right now and many people are having to cut back on their holiday spending and are concerned about the growing cost of purchasing a Christmas tree.  Boy, do we have a deal for you...

The Wahissa Lodge of the Order of the Arrow is having a Christmas tree sale!

“This is a great opportunity for our Lodge and our Arrowmen are excited about raising additional funds for the building of the Wesley K. Morgan Maintenance Facility at Camp Raven Knob,” said Paul Isaacson, the Wahissa Lodge Chief.

The trees go on sale the day after Thanksgiving at various locations throughout the council with the main one being right here in Winston-Salem at the Old Hickory Council office on Silas Creek Parkway.  Save money, decorate for the holidays, and support the OA and Camp Raven Knob - all at one time!  Details are in the attached file.

District Note: Centennial Quality Unit Awards (Wednesday, November 12, 2008)

TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:

We are in the process of collecting the 2008 Achievement forms for this year.  We are also collecting the 2009 Commitment/Achievement forms at the same time.  We are trying to make this as easy as possible for you to do so that your unit (Pack, Troop, Crew, or Ship) can qualify for the award.  But they can't qualify if you don't submit the forms!

You may access these forms on our District page (click on the link below):

http://www.oldhickorycouncil.org/piedmont.html

If those links do not work, you can also get to them via the following links:

2008 Form                        2009 Form

Once you open these forms, you may type in your data, save to your local PC, and electronically sign if you wish (this will allow you to easily e-mail it back to us).

If you turned in a form earlier this year, please remember that you only completed the Commitment column; we now need you to complete the Achievement column (located on the same form).  Simply use your copy and complete the form.  Once it has been completed, sign it and then you may e-mail it back to us or fax it to the Scout Office at 760-4222.

Attached to this email is a copy of the Laymen's version of the instructions that we distributed last year.  Some found them helpful.

Now get to work and submit your forms!

District Note: Popcorn Prizes (Monday, November 10, 2008)

TO ALL UNITS WHO SOLD POPCORN:

We received very few Sportsman Spectacular sheets at the popcorn pickup this past Friday and Saturday.  They were due at the pickup.  If your Scouts are planning on participating, then these need to be sent in by the end of this week.  You may fax the sheets to Steve Daniel at 760-4222.

Also, any Scout who qualified for the $50 gift card or Scholarship prize needs to have that information submitted as well by the end of the week.

If the forms are not turned in, then your Scouts will miss their chance to get these prizes.
