District Note: Council Camporee - Help Needed! (Monday, October 20, 2008)
TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:
The Council Camporee is almost here! We are anticipating 750-850 Scouts and leaders to with us at the Wilkes County Regional Airport. Presently we have almost 200 Scouts signed up to take part in the Aviation Merit Badge Sessions. I have spoke with Scott Piper from Salem District about Aviation Merit Badge. He has provided the attached outline for the Scouts who will be taking the merit badge. The plan that we discussed was to have all of the merit badge participants to gather at 9:00 a.m. for an opening session that would cover all of part 1 of the requirements.
Following this general session, the Scouts would be divided into several groups. They would then go through the following round robin type sessions:
1. Visit with a Professional Pilot.
2. Visit with a Flight instructor.
3. Visit with an Aviation Mechanic.
4. Take a flight.
Scott has agreed to conduct the opening session, however we do not have all of the other individuals confirmed.
We need three Pilots, three Flight Instructors, and three Aviation Mechanics. I am sure we have these people in our respective areas, but we need to have them on hand on Saturday to make it possible for our Scouts to earn the Aviation Merit Badge. Presently, we have Bill Baucom (Pilot and Mechanic), Bill Batts (Mechanic), Grant Gordon (Pilot) for sure and several other maybes. If any of you can help in getting individuals to help out on Saturday that would be wonderful. The round robin sessions will run until about 4:00 p.m. We will have lunch available for these folks. If there are any questions please let me know as well as any confirmed individuals to help with the instruction.

District Note: October Round Table is TONIGHT!
TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:
The October version of our Piedmont District Round Table (PDRT) meetings are tonight - 7:00 PM at Maple Springs UMC on Reynolda Road.
YOU SHOULD BE THERE!
Cub Scout Session = "Sewing the Seeds of Kindness" with emphasis and samples on service projects and activities.
Webelo Leaders will join the Boy Scout Session tonight as an introduction into Boy Scouts.
Boy Scout Session = "Webelo to Boy Scout Transition" to be led by Patrick O'Dorherty.
Venture Scout Session will be a discussion on Venture Advancement Program led by Gray Martin. More Venture adult leaders are needed to join in the discussion and participate in these meetings. Your Venture leaders work hard to prepare a good program - which does no good if you're not there to participate!

District Note: Cub Scout Quickies / Round Table (Friday, October 3, 2008)
TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:
PARENT/SON WEEKEND
If you are planning to attend the Parent/Son Weekend at Camp Raven Knob, please be advised that our weather is turning COLDER. You and your son should pack accordingly. In addition to the basics, consider taking an extra blanket or two, a cap (toboggan) to keep your head warm at night, some long pants and wool socks, and a water bottle. A pad to go under the sleeping bag is a must!
POPCORN BLITZ
This was extended to include this weekend, so if you have not yet filled up a sales sheet, get out and sale some popcorn this weekend - you will still be eligible for the Blitz Prizes if you fill a sheet!
BALOO TRAINING
BALOO Training will be held at Camp Raven Knob on Saturday, October 11. This is must have training for all Cub Scout Leaders! Contact the council office (760-2900) for more information.

October Round Table meetings are next Thursday. ALL ADULT LEADERS SHOULD ATTEND. This includes Den Leaders, Asst. Den Leaders, Packmasters, Asst. Packmasters, Committee Members, Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters, Venture Advisors, Asst. Venture Advisors, District Committee Members, and Unit Commissioners - as well as all others I failed to include! (Scoutmasters should plan to attend and bring their OATR to attend the Elauwit Chapter meeting!)
More information will be sent early next week.
