District Note: Round Table this Thursday! (Tuesday, September 9, 2008)

TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:

The Piedmont District sponsors Round Table meetings the second Thursday of each month, August - May.  With the exception of August and December, each meeting is at Maple Springs UMC on Reynolda Road (the "Pumkin Church" between Wake Forest and Polo Road).  Meetings begin at 7:00 PM and are open to all registered adult leaders in our district.

Separate sessions are held for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venture Scouts leaders.

Our Order of the Arrow chapter (Elauwit) also has their monthly meetings at the same time and place, so Scoutmasters are encouraged to attend Round Table and to bring their OATR (OA Troop Representative) with them for the OA meeting.

Programs for September:

Cub Scouts - "Adventures in Books"
These sessions are led by Jane Shouse with assistance from Catherine Stancil and Amy Essex, and are always a lot of fun and usually include hands on activities - so you will know how to do an activity before teaching it to your Scouts.

In October, the Webelos leaders will be invited to attend the Boy Scout session as they plan for their bridging ceremonies.

Boy Scouts - "GREAT CAMPING TRIPS IN OUR AREA"
The monthly schedule is planned by David Curtis and he has a different person with a presentation each month.  Glenn Chamberlin will do this presentation. Glenn has prepared an excellent presentation that will be interactive with the people in attendance.

Venture Scouts -
These sessions are planned by Gray Martin and George Clinard.  They always have a timely topic to help Venture leaders plan programs appropriate for our older coed youth.  (I just don't know what it is this month.)

I mentioned two exceptions - August and December.  August is our annual Kick Off session and Picnic, which we've already had this year.  December is our annual recognition banquet.  This year, it will be the 1st Thursday in December at New Hope UMC on Shattalon Drive.  Cost is $10 (in Advance) which covers the cost of a marvelous dinner and program.  Tickets may be available on Thursday night!

The banquet does need your help.  One, to recognize someone they need to be nominated.  The nomination forms were distributed earlier and should be available on the web - but let me know if you would like me to email you a copy.  Awards are normally given for outstanding leadership at each of our three levels of Scouting as well as our highest award, the District Award of Merit.  We also recognize one Cub Scout for the Shouse Award!  So, please nominate someone.

Two, we need your pictures.  Please send us copies illustrating some of your unit activities since our last banquet.  Kin Cartrette (Scoutingplus@alltel.net) will again put them all into a presentation that will be shown during the banquet.

Please let me know of any questions via email or ask any of our District Leadership on Thursday night.  I hope to see you there!
