District Note: BSA DR / Propane Cylinder Disposal (Friday, September 19, 2008)

TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:

Disaster Relief Efforts

BSA Disaster Relief Fund

Our prayers go out to the families of the Scouts and Scouters affected by recent hurricanes and the subsequent storms across several states. Several councils have been severely affected by the hurricanes and their aftermath. The full impact of the storm will be known in the coming days and weeks. Your generous contribution to assist members of our Scouting family and to help rebuild Scouting in the affected communities is greatly appreciated.

The Boy Scouts of America has established a Disaster Relief Fund to help rebuild Scouting in those areas that have been affected. BSA Disaster Relief Fund.

Units Helping Units

Many units across the country have been asking how they can help packs, troops, and crews that have been affected by recent natural disasters. In many cases it is just too early to tell.

We are collecting information now to match your unit up with a unit in need. Let us know who you are and how you want to help, and when the need is known, we will contact you with the appropriate information. Register Your Unit Now!

Propane Cylinder
disposal just got easier

Coleman's new Green Key tool is the first step in making your single-use propane cylinders recyclable. The Green Key tool enables you to be sure your propane cylinders are completely empty before they are discarded along with regular household trash or recycled when and where recycling programs become available.

The Green Key tool permanently opens the cylinder valve emptying any residual propane, and marks the cylinder as disposable or recyclable. Coleman is simultaneously educating consumers and recyclers that the Green Key tool transforms an empty propane cylinder into an empty steel can.

Steel is one of the most recycled materials in the United States, and the Green Key tool will enable even more steel to enter the recycling arena. Coleman propane cylinders manufactured from June 2008 forward will come with the Green Key tool. The tools also will be sold separately (coming soon).
