TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS: Boy Scout Round Table Topics The Boy Scout Roundtable Staff is now taking suggestions for roundtable topics/presentations for the 2008-2009 Boy Scout Round Table season. Please submit your suggestions to David Curtis, Boy Scout Round Table Commissioner at dcurtis12@triad.rr.com. We will take suggestions until April 30, at which point the selections will be made, and the 2008 - 2009 Boy Scout Roundtable Schedule will be published the first week in May. Your ideas are greatly appreciated. Your friend in scouting, David Curtis ************ Sea Base Opportunity for Two Troop 934 has two openings on their July 8 - 14, 2008 trip to the Florida High Adventure Seabase ( http://www.bsaseabase.org/ ) that they have been unable to fill. Unfortunately, we will have to fill or forfeit the two slots within the next two weeks as our final payment is due on April 8th.
Scouts must be 14 years old by September 1, 2008. See other eligibility requirements at ( http://www.bsaseabase.org/reservations/eligibility.html ).

Our crew is made up of 2 adult leaders (Wade Stokes and Terry Wiley). Both leaders are active Assistant Scoutmasters of Troop 934.
Wade Stokes - Director of Development, Wake Forest University Divinity School.
Terry Wiley - Executive Director, Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice.
We have slots for up to six scouts, but can go with as few as 4 scouts.
We currently have 4 signed up.
We will fly on Skybus from Greensboro to Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday, July 8th and return on Monday, July 14th.
The trip we have signed up for is the Key West Adventure that provides a different activity every day (deep sea fishing, snorkeling, sailing, camping one night - air conditioned barracks the other nights). The total cost of the trip is $860 per person ($650 to Seabase, $150 airfare, $60 for ground transportation). All meals & fees included in that price.
If you can help fill these 2 slots for this wonderful trip, please contact Terry Wiley at Terry.Wiley@wcsr.com ASAP. ************ Bethabara to Host Kite Day WINSTON-SALEM, NC— Historic Bethabara Park is hosting “Kite Day” on the park grounds, Saturday, April 5 from 1:30-4:30 P.M. This day provides an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy the park setting and either watch or participate in kite-flying. There is no admission to this event. A limited number of free kites will be available at the Park. In the event of rain, Kite Day will be held on Sunday, April 6 from 1:30-4:30 pm. Historic Bethabara Park is located at 2147 Bethabara Road, Winston-Salem, NC. Settled in 1753, Bethabara is the site of the first Moravian settlement in the Carolinas and the birthplace of Forsyth County. Historic Bethabara Park, Inc., a non-profit organization, was established in 1970 to bequeath the Moravian heritage to the future in trust and to maintain a historic museum at the 175-acre site. Historic Bethabara is a North Carolina WILD Education Site, a local historic district, on the National Register of Historic Places, and designated by the United States Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark. Kite Day at Historic Bethabara Park -- As well as being a fun day, there are some advancement activities they can accomplish: Tiger Achievements 1G - Go See It Activity Go to a library, historical society, museum, old farm, or historical building, or visit an older person in your community. Discover how family life was the same and how it was different many years ago. 5F - Family Activity Go outside and watch the weather 5D - Den Activity With a crayon or colored pencil and a piece of paper, make a leaf rubbing. 5G - Go See It Activity Take a hike with your den. Tiger Electives 22 With your family or with your den, have a picnic -- indoors or outdoors. 24 Make a snack and share it with your family or den. 35 Play a game outdoors with your family or den. Wolf Electives 5. Spare Time Fun a. Explain safety rules for kite flying. b. Make and fly a paper bag kite. c. Make and fly a two-stick kite. d. Make and fly a three-stick kite. e. Make and use a reel for kite string. ************ All Scouts wanting to take Motorboating Merit Badge at the Piedmont Advancement Camporee must have taken and passed the BSA swim test within 12 months of taking the merit badge. Participants MUST bring a written and signed statement from their Scoutmaster stating this. Passing the BSA Swimmer's test withing the year is a prerequisite for taking the merit badge. However, Swimming merit badge is not! All participants must arrive at the Children's Home in swim suits and t-shirts, ready to get wet! The van will leave the Children's Home promptly at 9:00 am for Camp Raven Point. Lunch will be provided at Raven Point. Participants should bring: water shoes sun screen plastic water bottle towel wide brimmed hat sunglasses nylon jacket Motorboating MB pamphlet a change of dry clothes and shoes for the ride back from Raven Point.
