District Note: February News (Wednesday, February 6, 2008)

TO PIEDMONT DISTRICT SCOUTERS:

SCOUTING FOR FOOD
We are in the middle of our annual drive to collect food for the needy and I hope that your unit is participating.  Most units will be collecting their filled bags this weekend.  When your collection is complete, please count the number of bags collected and the number of Scouts that participated and report these two numbers to our Piedmont District Scouting For Food Chair, Brenda Rush at 733-0196 (or via email at brenda.rush@bbandt.com).

ROUND TABLE
Our February Round Table meeting is next Thursday, Feb. 14 at Maple Springs UMC on Reynolda Road.  I know, that is Valentine's Day.  But you should let your sweetie know that you love her/him every day of the year and not wait for some greeting card company to specify the day!  Give her/him a hand full of flowers and come on out to make yourself a better Scouter, able to provide a better program for your unit.

Cub Scout Session — “Litter to Glitter”
Boy Scouts/Venturing Session — "Trek Safely/Safety"   by Walter “Mac” McCormick & Crew
There will also be some information on Upcoming Venturing events.

2008 CENTENNIAL QUALITY UNIT AWARD HELP
Do you want your unit to be a Quality Unit this year?  The first step in earning a CQU award is turning in a goal sheet for your unit.  The 2008 forms are due into the council office by February 15.  A copy of the form can be found online at http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=cm and click on "Centennial Quality Awards."

Help on completing the form will be available during the hour preceeding next week's Round Table meeting.  Just plan to come early to the Round Table meeting and we will be there to help complete and sign the form for your unit.  (It can be easily modified later, if needed.)

KEITH ROBERTS
Many of you know Keith Roberts and his wife Sandy from their many activities with the OA and around Camp Raven Knob.  Keith had a heart attack this week, has had a stent installed, and is now doing fine at High Point Regional Hospital.  He is expecting to go home within the next couple days but will have a period of recovery.  Please keep Keith and Sandy in your prayers!

TRAVIS GENTRY
Many of you also know Travis Gentry, our former District Director.  He had surgery this week for a problem with his vocal chords and will not be talking for awhile.  Please keep Travis and his family in your prayers!
