Date: January 1st 2009
We hope you have enjoyed your vacation and ready to get back to Scouting and school. We return to our regular Tuesday night meetings on Tuesday.
Snow Camping - The main topic of our Troop meeting on Tuesday will be to make final preperations for our snow camping trip to West Virginia over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.
Final sign-up for this trip will be on Tuesday, with menu planning the following Tuesday (Jan. 13).
We will watching the West Virginia weather right up until the time we depart to make sure there is going to be snow. If not, we will implement plan B and select a camping destination closer to home.
You can use this link on Weather Underground to watch the weather in Davis, WV, the closest town to the Cannan Valley Resort
The following Scouts and leaders took advantage of the sign-up opportunity at our Troop Christmas party.
Scouts - Logan E., Lyle G., Chris w.
Adults - Jay Harmel, Mac McCormick, Bill Brewer, Stan Gordon, Mike Warner
To make this trip work, we will have to have some addtional Scouts and leaders sign-up at Tuesday's meeting.
The Boy Scouts of America has made a change to its medical form and has consolidated several different forms into a single Annual Health and Medical Record form for all Scouts and Scouters (sometimes known as Scouts and Leaders!). The BSA plans to have just one consistent medial record form for all Scouting activities, including high adventure bases like Philmont and Sea Base, resident summer camp and National Jamboree.
Among the changes are the requirement for everyone to use the same form with no differentiation for ages. All participants will now be required to have an ANNUAL physcial examination from a doctor. The new form is valid for 12 calendar months.
Our Troop will begin using the Annual Health and Medical Record in 2009 and wanted to give our families plenty of advance notice as you make plans for summer camp and begin to schedule visits to the doctor for your son and yourself.
There is a link to the new form on the National BSA site. We will also be replacing the current forms on our Troop's website with this updated Annual Health and Medical Record form.
The national site also has a FAQ page on the new form.
Frequently Asked Questions Concerning the Annual Health and Medical Record form
No Troop Meeting - We will not have a Troop meeting on Tuesday, January 20. Hopefully many Scouts will have just returned from a snow camping trip the day before!
High Adventure Trips - We are planning an informational meeting on Philmont and Sea Base on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
We have commited to a Philmont crew in 2010 and several Scouts have expressed interest in a Sea Base trip in the past. The purpose of this meeting will be discuss the BSA's high adventure bases and judge interest in a trip to Sea Base or maybe a canie trip through the Northern Tier in addition to Philmont.
